| Bet Hockey – What if Heatley Stays? |
|
If I bet hockey I’m not predicting it by any means, but I have to wonder if Dany Heatley may stay in Ottawa. Edmonton could still happen, but we know he doesn’t want to go there. All accounts seem to suggest he wants to go southwest and enjoy the sunshine in San Jose.
It would be somewhat hilarious to see Heatley in San Jose. He’d leave Ottawa for something new and set himself up….on a perennial-choker, defensive-minded team with an enigmatic center who disappears at important moments. Yeah, Dany, sounds totally refreshing.
Suddenly, signee Alex Kovalev, who was likely brought in to replace Heatley, is beckoning for Dany to hang around. That has to be an intriguing idea for Sens fans, as a top-four of Heatley, Kovalev, Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson would be outstanding (at least in fantasy hockey or for those who bet hockey). A fearsome foursome would let the Sens split them into pairs and remedy the “one-line-team” dilemma that has plagued Ottawa since the lockout ended.
The Sens are still probably doomed this season, but they should reconsider trading Heatley…or at least not force the issue if the offer isn’t right. Keeping him in the Ottawa would at least ensure some big shootouts at Scotiabank Place this season and excite those who bet hockey. |
